Vietnam's First Specialized Hospital Laundry Facility

P. Dussmann Vietnam's central laundry facility in An Phu, Thuan An, Binh Duong was developed as a large-scale industrial laundry project serving the healthcare sector.

After construction was completed, the facility was put into operation to provide laundry services for general textiles as well as the processing and sterilization of medical and surgical linen.

Scale of the Central Laundry Facility

The facility was developed by P. Dussmann Vietnam with German investment. According to information released when the facility entered operation, the first phase involved an investment of approximately EUR 6 million and a designed capacity of around 20,000 kg of linen per day.

With this capacity, the central laundry facility was designed to serve hospitals, organizations and institutions in Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

A centralized laundry model allows healthcare facilities to organize linen processing more professionally, especially for textiles that require strict hygiene and infection-control procedures.

Hospital Linen Processing

Hospital laundry may include patient garments, healthcare staff uniforms, bed sheets, towels, blankets and other textiles used during treatment and patient care.

Before washing, linen is collected and classified according to its type and condition. Different categories of soiled linen may require separate handling procedures to help reduce the risk of cross-contamination during transportation and processing.

Items requiring special treatment need to be handled and disinfected separately before entering the washing process.

Continuous Industrial Laundry Systems

One characteristic of large-scale laundry operations is the use of continuous industrial washing systems designed to process large volumes of linen through a controlled workflow.

After classification, the linen is transferred to the washing system and processed according to pre-programmed procedures. Water temperature, washing time and other treatment stages are controlled according to the requirements of each type of textile.

A continuous laundry process helps improve productivity while supporting a more standardized approach to large-volume linen processing.

Finishing Flatwork and Garments

After washing and treatment, the linen moves to finishing stages such as drying, ironing, folding and packaging.

Flatwork such as towels and bed sheets can be processed using industrial ironing equipment to help dry and finish the textiles before folding.

Garments such as uniforms and clothing may be processed using drying and finishing equipment suitable for each type of product.

Special Requirements for Surgical Linen

Some textiles used directly in operating rooms have stricter hygiene and sterility requirements.

These items may be processed on separate laundry lines or in controlled areas. After processing, the textiles are packaged to help maintain the required hygienic condition before they are returned for use.

Separating the processing of general linen from textiles requiring special treatment is an important consideration when organizing a hospital laundry facility.

The Importance of Centralized Hospital Laundry

The development of large-scale laundry facilities dedicated to hospitals reflects the growing need for more professional healthcare linen processing.

Instead of handling all laundry operations separately at each hospital, a centralized model can support investment in high-capacity equipment, specialized workflows and services for multiple healthcare facilities.

This model is also an important area of development for the industrial laundry equipment sector, particularly in environments with high demands for productivity, process control and hygiene.

Laundry Equipment Solutions for Hospitals

When developing a hospital laundry facility, equipment selection should not be based solely on washing capacity. The overall workflow, linen separation, post-wash processing and hygiene requirements of each area also need to be considered.

A hospital laundry system may include industrial washing machines, barrier washers, industrial dryers, flatwork ironers and other supporting equipment depending on the scale and operational requirements of the facility.
